July 26

3 groups of 3 seeds. Planted July 22, 2012. I’m in Southwest Cook County IL, so this is not typical!

It might seem odd, but I have replanted pumpkins at this late date.  From seed, no less.  I’ll keep a photo journal.

October’s Party Love this Poem! Monday, Oct 24 2011

October’s Party
By: George Cooper

October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came—
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.

The Chestnuts came in yellow,
The Oaks in crimson dressed;
The lovely Misses Maple
In scarlet looked their best;
All balanced to their partners,
And gaily fluttered by;
The sight was like a rainbow
New fallen from the sky.

Then, in the rustic hollow,
At hide-and-seek they played,
The party closed at sundown,
And everybody stayed.
Professor Wind played louder;
They flew along the ground;
And then the party ended
In jolly “hands around.”

Bees ‘n Bamboo Who Knew? Monday, Oct 24 2011

Here is a very simple way to accommodate pollinators in your yard:

cut a long piece of bamboo reed into 18 or so 6″ tubes

bundle the tubes together using waxed twine to secure

place the bundle between tree branches

attract bees!

Some varieties of bees do not build hives–learning something new everyday!–so this bundle of bamboo reeds provides the shelter they need!

More Summer. Open in Case of Winter! Thursday, Aug 18 2011

Almost purple in color

I want to remember these lovely, even hot, but more lovely days of Summer 2011. I’ll look back on these posts–probably with the first, really significant snowfall, and recapture the essence and warmth in these photos.Spark of color along the shrub line heading into the woods.

A Simple Life Magazine Tuesday, Nov 9 2010

I just found the most interesting magazine titled, A Simple Life,  at The Quilt Merchant in Winfield, IL.

If you love primitives and authentic interpretations of early American life, this publication is for you!  Here’s the link to the web site–doesn’t do the mag justice!–   http://asimplelifemagazine.com/
